our story.

Tjum Tjumba is a Naarm/Melbourne based independent record label, founded and led by First Nations creatives. Our mission is to champion boundary-pushing artists, while reshaping how culturally diverse talent is supported within the electronic music industry. Our role in music production, artist development, digital distribution, and curatorial projects aims to center emerging voices in the scene, with a focus on underground house, techno, and experimental club sounds.

our team.

Michael Higgins

Founder & Creative Director

Michael is the founder of Tjum Tjumba and a Djab Wurrung man with deep roots in composition, sound design, and music industry education. After completing studies in production and composition, he built a successful career as a music producer and spent five years on the board of the Australian Institute of Music. He founded AIM’s First Nations Community Centre, where he worked as coordinator for three years. Michael plays a central role in producing the label’s music, shaping each release while mentoring artists and guiding the sonic direction of the catalogue.

Stephen Boffa

Artist Liaison

Stephen manages artist communications and coordination at Tjum Tjumba, supporting artists through onboarding, release logistics, and day-to-day planning. With a background in event production and venue management, he brings a calm, practical approach to keeping projects moving — building trust with artists and ensuring they feel supported at every stage.
